Goodwin in February 2007 was at the centre of the AFL investigation into the betting on AFL matches by four players - and later admitted to his personal demons with gambling.

He was fined $40,000 by the AFL for the episode.
But Adelaide chief executive Steven Trigg says Goodwin and his club are prepared to take on the BetEzy sponsorship, particularly when rival AFL clubs and the league are embracing the commercial spin-offs of gambling on AFL matches.
Trigg told AdelaideNow today: 'We do not condone irresponsible gambling, just as we do not condone irresponsible drinking. But we have a succesful sponsorship partnership with a brewer, Carlton, and we now have a gambling agency as a sponsor.'

'We are aware of the issues with gambling, in society and in sport, but it is legal to have a bet. And, in these tough commercial times, we need to continue to grow our corporate backing. Other clubs have accepted betting agencies as sponsors. So has the AFL.'
